It had been many many pony generations since the clacking and clattering of young hooves had regularly enlivened the halls of Canterlot Castle, and Princess Celestia knew it. Even in the best of times there was more arthritic creakings of limbs from stiff and stiffening old diplomats and dignitaries than ponies at play, and sometimes she wondered if the life were going out of the old place.
But now the hammer and nails had come out and the constant buzz and flutter of pegasuses around the old south tower had stirred in the Princess memories of livelier days of fun and play in the wide marble halls, and that is how an invitation made its way from her study to the Ponyville Publick Library. The Princess had spent many weeks anticipating her student's arrival and the evening finally came late on

It took Twilight forever to fall asleep, the incident playing over and over in her head, the same mixture of sensations and frustrations just memories now but nevertheless still raw and sensitive. But at last she fell into a fitful sleep, hot and uncomfortable but empty of dreams...
....until she awoke to the sound of the windows clattering open and the rustling of the curtains against the drapery of her bed.
She drew her head slowly out from under the covers to see that the whole room was lit up by silver-blue light pouring in from the now open window. The mirror had turned into a pool of quicksilver and the brass handles and hinges of the furniture were sparkling as if they had been doused in glitter.
